As both a parent and educator, there is one thing that I have learned and one thing I believe is and should remain true when we look at the educational system--OUR CHILDREN ARE NOT A BUSINESS. Our children are our responsibility and ensuring that they are all fairly educated is an obligation that should supersede, or at least be the main focus of any and all efforts. Children should be our MOTIVATION and, as students they should be our FOCUS.
I stand strong on the belief that it is our responsibility as educators, parents and community members to fully invest time and effort in assuring that academic gaps are closed and that our children receive the assistance and educational privileges that are due. Education should serve the purpose of enriching the student's mind and propelling to higher levels of understanding the world. Education should be efficient and effective and should be rung to new levels of growth, development over all success.
As a lifelong member of the Charleston County community and as professional who is passionate about education, I have come to realize that education is vital. I have come to realize that education is the greatest gift, the most important tool for the toolbox of life with which we can empower our children. It is up those of us who are indeed educations to respond to this call and simply do our part.
